Hello my lovely readers and fellow book-lovers! For those of you new here, I, your dragon-loving host Patricia Parrington, have the pleasure of interviewing characters from books all over the world.

Today, Raam is here with us from the new adult urban fantasy series The 10th Avatar by Dharam Nahal. Dharam is thirty years old and is from the small city of Lichfield in the UK. He loves lifting weights, writing stories, daydreaming, and putting smiles on faces.

Meet Raam

Welcome to Fable Features! It is such a beautiful summer day today.

[Patricia sits on an orange suede couch across from her guest and taps her chin.]

I’m thinking of taking Scribblemore to the beach.

[A weasel-sized blue dragon pokes his head out from under the couch at the sound of his name. Patricia returns her attention to her guest and smiles.]

Whoa, is that a dragon? That’s so cool.

[An excited smile forms on his face.]

Yes! He’s a pseudodragon. He’s very friendly.

[Scribblemore trots over to Raam and sniffs his ankle.]

[Raam gently strokes the little dragon on its head with a single finger.]

He’s so cute.

[Scribblemore chirrs happily. Patricia smiles.]

He is, isn’t he? Well, let’s get to know you! Tell me: What’s your favorite summer activity?

I love getting outside in the summer. Especially getting near some water. I love swimming and cliff diving. But nothing beats a good nap in the sunshine.

Ooh yes, I love a good nap in the sunshine!

How do your friends describe you?

Some think I’m reckless, that I take too many risks. Others think I’m a kindhearted fool. Some . . .

[He blushes and looks down.]

Some think I’m a sweet man trying to do the right thing.

Aww that’s kind. I'm sure you are very sweet!

Who would you say is your closest friend?

Her name is Isla. She’s the first friend I made when I moved to Strathom. She means a lot to me.

[His face softens.]

She believes in me.

[Patricia’s eyes soften as well.]

It’s important to have those kinds of people in our lives. I’m glad you met Isla and became friends!

I’d love to hear your answer on this: If you could choose to be famous for something, what would it be?

I’m already kind of famous in my city of Strathom. The call me “The Hero of the City.”

[He chuckles.]

 I guess that’s what happens when you save the city multiple times. Honestly, I’d rather not be famous at all.

[His eyes grow serious for a moment.]

There’s a lot of pressure with that kind of fame.

[Patricia leans forward slightly, intrigued.]

That’s very cool you saved the city—and multiple times.

[She settles back with an understanding nod.]

Everything comes with a price. Being famous can have its perks, but like you said, it also comes with some not-so-fun things. I’m curious—if you were offered the ability to erase the city’s memory of you saving them, would you do it?

[He leans back into his seat and his brows narrow. His eye contact breaks as he thinks.]

No, I wouldn’t. People need something to believe in and if I can be that focal point of faith, then I will. It’s my responsibility now.

[Raam smiles.]

I guess that’s the reason I have these gifts.

That is a very selfless answer. I hope the people appreciate how much you do for them.

[Patricia cocks her head.]

What was the best compliment you’ve ever received?

Someone thanked me for saving their life. Thing is, I didn’t remember directly saving them. But then they explained to me that they saw me on the news and my actions inspired them to be a better person. There’s no better compliment than that in my opinion.

Wow, how inspiring! That’s amazing that you indirectly influenced them to be a better person.

[Patricia snaps her fingers and Scribblemore guiltily jumps back from where he’d been nibbling on the couch feet.]

Maybe Scribblemore will learn some manners from you.

Don’t worry, I know a monkey that’s just as bad . . . and just as cute.

[Patricia chuckles, sighs, then collects herself and turns to the next question.]

What’s the strangest or scariest situation you ever found yourself in?

Between fighting giants, battling demons and monsters, and running into burning buildings, I would have to say my depression.

[He leans forward and clasps his hands, his deep eye contact intensifies.]

Sometimes staring into that abyss can be hard, and the worst is when it stares back at you. It takes real courage to pull yourself out of that vortex. Especially when you don’t know if you can.

That must be very hard. Depression is a very difficult monster to wrestle with.

[Patricia sits quietly for a moment, pondering his words.]

I love how you said “it takes real courage” because I believe that is so very true. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks, it’s nice to actually get those words out. That’s why I choose to do what I do, so no one else has to feel that way and experience something so tough.

For sure. Suffering isn’t fun, but sometimes it can help us to help others out so they don’t have to travel the same path.

Our next question is a fun one: If you were handed $500 at this moment, how would you spend it?

[Raam laughs.]

Rent! I’ve been out of a job after I toppled a corrupt CEO of a company trying to force himself into our city’s politics. Turns out he was an eighty-year-old demon trying to get revenge on the world.

[His face hardens.]

He’s still out there.

Oh no! Do you think he’ll return to your city or seek you for revenge?

[A slight glimmer of rage fills his eyes as a single tear forms.]

Yes. That’s why I need to be ready. I need to learn everything I can about these powers, because right now, I wouldn’t be able to stop him. Because he wants more than revenge.

[Patricia’s eyes widen.]

That’s so scary! But it sounds like you’re doing exactly what you need to do to prepare.

I think I know the answer to this next question: What living person do you most despise?

That CEO. He tricked me, fooled me. His name is Rava, Rava Bhuta. One day, I’ll stop him.

I hope so! He sounds terrible and needs to be stopped.

[Scribblemore chirrups and Patricia nods.]

We are drawing close to the end of our time, so let’s end on one last question: If you could accomplish one great thing in your life, and money or time or other things weren’t an obstacle, what would that be?

[A smile breaks from his lips.]

That’s a great question. Besides making the world a better place one day at a time.

[He looks up to the ceiling and his face relaxes.]

I want to fly, fly as high as I can. No restraints, no restrictions. I’ve tried before.

[He chuckles.]

But I know I can do it. My grandfather once asked me, “Do you believe a man can fly?” and my answer is a resounding yes.

I think that’s a great goal! And after having gotten to know you a bit, I feel like you’re the type who can certainly make that happen.

[Patricia smiles at her guest and stands.]

[Raam smiles, stands, and stretches out his hand for a handshake.]

[Patricia shakes his hand.]
