Angela Dragos

May Character Interview

Patricia Parrington ~ May 22, 2026

Hello my lovely readers and fellow book-lovers! For those of you new here, I, your dragon-loving host Patricia Parrington, have the pleasure of interviewing characters from books all over the world.

Today, Angela Dragos is here with us from the new adult dark fantasy series The Pale Huntress by B.D. Weddell. Weddell is an indie horror and fantasy writer from the Northwest. Weddell loves to read, write, game, and do outside cooking.

Meet Angela

[Patricia and her guest enter the studio and settle onto an orange suede couch. A blue weasel-sized dragon hops onto Patricia’s lap.]

I hope you don’t mind if Scribblemore joins us! He’s been clingy today.

[Scribblemore huffs and Patricia pets him then grins at her guest.]

[Angela Dragos takes her seat, sitting rigid with both feet on the ground and her hands folded in her lap. She adjusts her cloak to sit more comfortably.]

Welcome to Fable Features! I’m excited to get to know you.

Thank you for having me. I must say this is a very nice studio. Your dragon is very . . . adorable. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a dragon let alone that . . . small.

Yeah, he is quite small, isn’t he?

Since my mind is on animals, what animal would you choose as a sidekick?

I suppose if I must choose, it would have to be my cat, Sebastian. Although how he would take riding on a horse I doubt he’d be comfortable, especially how often I must travel.

[Patricia chuckles.]

I doubt any cat would particularly enjoy a horseback ride.

You say you travel a lot. Do you travel for pleasure?

No. My travels are primarily for my duty as a Hunter. Whenever the Black Hand receives a prayer for a contract, one of us answers the call. From there we hunt the beast in question, and we are the few remaining Hunting Guilds in the country and so our work is plentiful, as long as we do not draw attention from the Empire.

That sounds like very serious work. And potentially dangerous. So we’re learning that you’re a traveler and a hunter! What would you say is your best physical feature?

[Angela shifts uncomfortably, her cat-like eyes looking at Scribblemore as if for help.]

I am . . . told a lot of things . . . But I would have to say that my hair is what I would consider my best. White isn’t common in Balkeñoir since most the Noyiians returned to their homeland, and I try to care for it as often as I am able.

It is very nice hair!

Thank you, you’re too kind.

[Patricia twirls a lock of her own hair.]

What’s your favorite memory?

Hmm . . . My favorite . . . if I had to choose it would be of learning the piano. I had a . . . a great teacher.

Oh I love music. Tell me more about this teacher! What made you like them so much?

[Angela shifts uncomfortably.]

She was . . . a servant in the castle I lived in as a little girl. She was also a pianist who taught the children of the royal family. She taught me whenever we had spare time, and . . . I liked her because she was my mother. I enjoy music immensely, and I have her to thank for my love of it. Playing the piano also helps me remember her.

[Patricia’s eyes soften.]

That’s lovely. I’m glad you have a way to remember her.

What is your greatest regret?

I couldn’t save the lives of two people very dear to me. One who helped me escape when I was discovered for my . . . heritage, and the other who saved my life and got me safely to Balkeñoir.

[Patricia grows quiet.]

I’m so sorry to hear that. Loss is hard. They sound like amazing people to have sacrificed to get you to safety.

They were . . .

[Scribblemore chirrs in agreement. Patricia scritches his head.]

On a more light-hearted note, what animal would you say gives the same vibe as you?

I don’t know. Perhaps a cat since they are very quiet, very lethal, and very independent creatures.

I could see that!

[Patricia taps her chin.]

So you’ve had people give their lives for you and that has me wondering: What would you give your life for?

I offer my life for every contract I am summoned to complete. My duty is to the people of the realm. Although, if I had to give my life up willingly to save one person, it would have to be my hunting partner, Jacob. We have been through a lot together, and he is still so young and a good man.

I love that. Jacob must be wonderful if you’re willing to give up your life for him!

Please don’t say that out loud . . . if he hears that he won’t let me hear the end of it. His ego is big enough as is.

[Patricia chuckles and gives a reassuring nod.]

Well we can’t have that. I’ll make sure he doesn’t hear that bit of the interview.

Going back to the traveling topic, what place would you like to visit someday?

To visit . . . I suppose my home country again. To really see the place of my birth and see all I had missed in childhood and after my escape.

That would be great! You touched on it briefly, how you had to escape from there. Do you mind sharing a little more about that? Why are your people hunted? Why did you have to escape?

It is a long story . . . Well, to start, I had to escape because I was to be executed. When my fangs finally grew and it was discovered that I was a Dhampir, a lot of bad things happened. I killed a man who had tried to . . . take advantage of me. It was bad enough as is, but because I was a Dhampir, I was to be executed on the summer’s solstice. My mother . . . because she had laid with an Immortal Vampire, was declared a witch and burned at the stake. I was forced to watch by the royal family. It was . . . a terrible thing to witness. I escaped thanks to a friend I grew up with in the castle, a boy from the Kingsguard. He helped me escape the country . . .

[Angela pauses, lost in memory.]

To answer your question as to why my people are hunted, it is because of our heritage. Immortals are the most dangerous predators of the human race, and should they have spawn with human partners, those Dhampirs are regarded just as dangerous if not more so because we can walk in sunlight and some even have the power of the Immortal Eyes. These eyes . . .

[She waves over her lavender cat-like eyes.]

. . . are considered the Eyes of Clairvoyance. But that is why I had to escape my old home, and why I am here today. I . . . apologize for the long story.

No need to apologize! Thank you for sharing your story. That must have been so hard, going through all of that. And even still, needing to hide who you are.

[Scribblemore paws at Patricia’s arm and she nods.]

Yes, yes, I know.

[She turns her green eyes to Angela.]

Well, we are drawing to the end of our time. I’d like to ask you this one last question: What’s a phrase you’d like to have etched on your tombstone?

I will live for a very long time unless I am killed in the line of duty. But if I was to be buried . . . I never really thought of it. I guess just my name and when I died.

Nice and simple. I like it.

[Patricia smiles at her guest.]

Thank you so much for joining me today, Angela. It was lovely meeting you, and I hope you are able to see your home country again someday.

Thank you, I hope so too. Thank you for having me this has been . . . a lovely experience.

End of interview.
