May Character Interview
Patricia Parrington ~ May 15, 2026

Hello my lovely readers and fellow book-lovers! For those of you new here, I, your sleepy host Patricia Parrington, have the pleasure of interviewing characters from books all over the world.
Today, Seldin Sei Gardane is here with us from the new adult fantasy comic book series Wielders of Aether by Bruce, R.F. Bruce is the author of The Life and Times of Dinah Marton, The Guardians, and Wielders of Aether. He’s been writing since he was fifteen, and he enjoys almost all genres.
Meet Seldin
Welcome to Fable Features!
[Patricia yawns as she sits across from her guest on an orange suede sofa.]
Man, sorry. I had a wild dream last night and I didn’t wake up feeling very rested. What’s the last dream you had?
[Seldin walks on stage with a charming smile and a wave to the audience as he takes his seat.]
Thanks for having me, Patricia. I am so sorry you didn’t sleep well. I haven’t slept since I ascended, but the last dream I remember brought me to the planes of Binax-Beta just before the Pulsari attacked. I wish I could say it was a pleasant dream.
That doesn’t sound like a pleasant dream at all! Is the Pulsari attack something from your past?
[Seldin sighs.]
Unfortunately, no, they’re very much in our present. The Pulsari are a militant race of planetary conquerors. We’ve been trying to ward them off, but they are persistent.
I hope you find a way to defeat them.
[Patricia raises an eyebrow at the next question on her list.]
This is an interesting one: What is the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever worn?
[Seldin looks upward, thinking.]
Hmm . . . I don’t know about embarrassing, but certainly the strangest thing I’ve ever worn was Lucy. She’s a Beljusa—an extraterrestrial rose from Binax-Alpha. They form a symbiotic bond with a host and become a biological suit. She protected me and taught me how to live off the aether on my journey to become the Guardian of Life.
[Patricia’s green eyes widen in wonder.]
That certainly would be strange. But cool too! She sounds like a very helpful friend to have in your life.
Speaking of help, who do you usually turn to for help?
[Seldin laughs.]
Other than Lucy?
[Patricia chuckles as well.]
Yes, other than Lucy.
My closest friends Simon, the Guardian of Technology, and Jasra, the Guardian of Time. I, honestly, don’t know what I’d do without them.
They all have such cool-sounding titles. How does one become a guardian?
[Seldin’s eyes trail up thoughtfully.]
It starts with a connection to the aether . . .
[Seldin brings up a hand in a subtle motion. The air bends around his fingers, folding into a glowing turquoise orb of light.]
Everyone has some connection to it even if they don’t know it, but you cultivate it . . . learn how to listen to it. Not with your ears but with your sense. With your mind.
[Seldin draws the energy back in and the air returns to normal.]
As that connection grows, the aether will guide you toward a purpose. Then . . . if you’re strong enough, and that role is not already filled, you can choose to ascend.
How fascinating!
[Patricia tries to mimic the motion Seldin had done. The air remains the same. She shrugs and drops her hand to her lap.]
Must need more practice. So! Here’s the next question: What are you reluctant to tell people?
[Seldin pauses.]
Hmm . . . I don’t want to incite panic, but our universe is in danger. There aren’t many guardians left. Khyrah, the Demigod of Chaos, has destroyed most of us.
[Patricia frowns, concerned.]
I don’t like the sound of that. Who exactly is this Khyrah? What makes her so powerful?
[Seldin’s sighs, looking down. Thinking.]
We don’t know much about her. The Guardians of Death and Dimension have never been very forthcoming. Just know that she is to us what we are to you. That’s why I agreed to this interview. I’m hopeful that in seeing a guardian in the flesh that it’ll inspire others to pursue aether and grow our numbers. That is our only chance against her.
[Patricia turns to the camera.]
You heard him, folks! Start pursuing aether. We need to defeat Khyrah!
[She turns back to Seldin and tilts her head.]
What’s your favorite bird?
That’s a tough one. I’ve seen so many in my travels across the stars. But I think one of the most interesting bird-like creatures are the Spriis from Oqu-IX. They don’t fly. They’re short, turkey-sized beings that hops on a single leg in the middle of their bodies, and they change color to communicate like a cuttlefish.
How fascinating! I’d love to meet one someday.
[Patricia taps her chin, thinking.]
What was the situation where you laughed the hardest you ever have?
[Seldin rears back, laughing as the memory comes to him.]
Oh, jeez, probably the time Jasra swept everyone at poker night. Simon was so mad, but it’s hard to win against her when she can see the future.
[Patricia grins.]
True! That certainly gives her an advantage.
On a more serious note, what’s a line you would never cross?
[Seldin’s eyes grow serious.]
Sorcery. I will never use it. Sorcery draws power from Khyrah, and she exacts a three-fold payment in return. My soul is not for sale.
Good. I love how firm you are in that conviction. That’s needed if we are to overcome evil, no?
The Guardian of Death would say that evil is a perspective and that peace means holding the bigger stick.
Hmm, that’s one way to look at it I guess.
[Patricia frowns, mulling it over.]
Not what I would say, though.
I’d like to end with a fun question today! So here it is: If the world was going to explode and you could only bring one person with you on the escape pod, who would it be and why?
Jasra. She’s a great friend, but more than that, she’s the Guardian of Time. There are four guardians necessary to ensure the stability of the universe: Life, Death, Dimension, and Time. With her there’s a chance to repair the damage.
Sounds like a good friend to have on your side!
[Patricia stands.]
Thank you so much for coming out today, Seldin! It was a pleasure getting to know you. I hope you and the other guardians are able to defeat Khyrah.
Thank you, Patricia.
[Seldin stands and extends a hand.]
[Patricia shakes it and smiles warmly.]
End of interview.
