May Character Interview
Patricia Parrington ~ May 1, 2026

Hello my lovely readers and fellow book-lovers! For those of you new here, I, your justice-loving host Patricia Parrington, have the pleasure of interviewing characters from books all over the world.
Today, Danby is here with us from the adult dark fantasy book Tails of Battle: The Fox, the Jaguar, and the Mysterious Island by Timothy Robare. Timothy is a world traveling author who loves dogs.
Meet Danby
Welcome to Fable Features!
[Patricia smiles at her guest and pulls her long green hair into a ponytail.]
Tell me a little bit about where you’re from. Do you have many good memories from there?
Well, I am from the free lands outside of the empire's hands. I have a ton of good memories as a pub owner also a lot of annoying ones like the day Jakama came into my life.
[Patricia leans forward a bit.]
Jakama? Is that your friend? Tell me more about how they came into your life.
It is difficult to remember when that bushy-tailed menace came in. We met when he came into my pub and I noticed he was a fox. No one knew foxes still existed. They all were killed by the emperor long ago. I noticed his orange tail under his cloak.
Ahh, so not a friend then. It’s a good thing you noticed his tail!
What do you do when you’re bored?
Pick on my drunk customers mostly.
[Patricia chuckles.]
That does sound like a fun way to pass time.
If you were a superhero, what would your name and superpower be?
What the heck is a superhero? I guess like a priest? I would probably use earth because it seems powerful. I could crush anyone, build anything, make little earthquakes for fun.
It does sound very powerful! You mention priests. Are the priests in your world able to use earth powers like that?
They are. Earth, water, and fire depending on what they were born with from their gods. There was air long ago, but that seems to have disappeared, so they say.
Very mysterious! Makes me wonder what happened to make it disappear.
[Patricia’s green eyes drift to the ceiling as she ponders. Then she shrugs and returns her focus to Danby.]
Back to you, though, what’s a problem you’re struggling with right now?
The pesky fox's antics as always. I think war is coming for certain.
[Patricia’s brows pinch together.]
War doesn’t sound good. Who exactly is this fox? Why do you think their antics are going to start a war?
Jakama. He wants his revenge for the foxes. He also stands for freedom. None of us want to be under the paw of the empire.
Oh yes! I remember you mentioning Jakama at the start of this interview. I can understand why he wants to fight—freedom is a precious thing.
What is something you thought would be a great idea but was terrible when you actually did it?
Well, once I pulled a tiger's tail when I was younger. That was a terrible idea.
[Danby snorts.]
I got pummeled. Never pull a tiger's tail. Cats are too unpredictable and violent.
[He chuckles.]
Oh no! Yeah, that probably wasn’t a good idea. Especially when it’s a big cat like a tiger.
[Patricia snaps her fingers.]
If you could snap your fingers and instantly speak another language, what would it be?
I would speak the language of the elves. They all speak our language. But it would be cool to be all high and proper like those pointy ears. Could you imagine? Showing up to an elven court as a boar and speaking their language?
The look on their faces would be priceless!
[Patricia agrees with a grin.]
What is something new you tried recently?
I tried making wine and ale as a mix. It did not turn out great. Although Kazly enjoyed it. He enjoys any alcohol though. Bears.
[Danby’s fist hits the table as he laughs.]
[Patricia makes a face.]
That doesn’t sound too good to me either. At least someone enjoyed it.
[She sighs.]
It looks like we’re almost out of time. Let’s do one last question!
If you could change one thing about your current life, what would that be?
I would be a king. I would be a great king and would look good with a crown. Plus then maybe I could rally troops against Ceezar. They'd build statues to me.
That would be so cool!
[Patricia stands.]
It was great getting to chat with you Danby. Hopefully you can stop that fox and halt any wars from starting!
End of interview.
