February Character Interview
Patricia Parrington ~ February 15, 2026

Hello my lovely readers and fellow booklovers! For those of you new here, I, your inquisitive host Patricia Parrington, have the pleasure of interviewing characters from books all over the world.
Today, Grimlock Bonebreaker is here with us from the adult fantasy book Relentless Blades by Russell Carroll. Russell is an accomplished author who focuses on dark sword and sorcery fantasy. He passionately crafts tales of noble but flawed heroes overcoming personal demons to vanquish wicked villains—the kind of adventures he and his friends lived while playing Dungeons and Dragons.
Meet Grimlock
[Patricia and her guest settle onto a pair of orange suede couches. Patricia sets a bowl of random fruits onto the coffee table.]
Welcome to Fable Features! Help yourself.
[Patricia pulls a grape out from between two oranges and leans back against the couch.]
I know it’s an odd assortment. I just pulled out what leftover fruit we had in the fridge. They say you can learn things about the food people have in their place.
[She leans forward curiously.]
What’s in your fridge right now?
Â
[Grimlock cocks his head, clearly confused.]
What is a fridge? I am not familiar with this word. Fridge, like frigid? Why would you want to know what is in my cold?
Â
Hmm, good point!
[Patricia bites her lip and taps her chin.]
Well, I suppose I would describe a fridge as an invention that keeps food cold. If you had one, what kinds of food would you keep in it?
Â
[Grimlock’s eyes widen in astonishment but then he quickly frowns.]
This sounds like magic to me. I am not fond of that, particularly if it comes from a foul necromancer.
[He ponders for a moment.]
Such an invention would be helpful. I would store the elk and deer I have killed for sustenance.
Â
I completely understand being wary of magic. But you’re right! It is helpful in this case. Especially when you have lots of leftover meat from a hunt!
What is the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever worn?
Â
When I transform back into my half-skron form after using the power of the Totem Warrior to become a huge, black bear, I am naked. That can create embarrassing situations.
Â
I can imagine! I feel like it would be worth the risk, though, if it means being able to transform into a black bear.
Â
It has proven to be very useful when the great bear spirit is not tempting me with malevolent urges.
Â
[Patricia’s green eyes widen a bit.]
Sounds scary to me, being tempted like that. You seem very powerful, but even the strongest often turn to someone in times of need. Who do you usually turn to for help?
Â
[Grimlock stares askance for a moment as if reminiscing.]
I used to rely on my mentor Tevarious, until he died. After that I relied only upon myself until I met my good friends, Vigilanton and Fralic. I have learned that I can turn to them in times of need.
Â
[Patricia nods and smiles.]
Having good friends you can lean on is very important. How did you meet Vigilanton and Fralic?
Â
[Grimlock’s eyes sparkle when discussing his friends.]
I met Vigilanton whom I call ‘Vig’ when we learned we had both been betrayed by the vragoths and vowed to hunt them down. Together we met Fralic in the Mayhem Arena. Despite some early struggles, he proved himself a capable warrior and a loyal friend.
Â
Loyal friends are wonderful to have. I’m glad you met Vig and Fralic!
What’s something hard you faced recently?
Â
[Grimlock crosses his arms across his massive chest and leans forward in his seat.]
What has not been hard is the better question. My time battling in the Mayhem Arena was very difficult, particularly knowing that each day spent as a prisoner was one more day lost in stopping the dreaded vragoths from enacting their nefarious plan of world conquest.
That sounds awful! Both being a prisoner and being forced to battle. Yet it sounds like these vragoths are an even greater evil. Who or what are they? Is anyone else aware they’re a threat to the world?
Â
[Grim scowls, his face turning to a mask of rage.]
The vragoths are a scourge who seek to dominate all they come across. They believe the world belongs to them and will stop at nothing to dominate it. Most know this, but the vragoths are powerful, so many are scared to cross them.
Â
[Patricia frowns.]
I can understand that—being scared to go against something so scary and powerful. But evil like that needs to be stopped! I’m glad you and your friends are hunting them down.
Onto a more fun question, what’s your favorite bird?
Â
As a ranger, I like all types of birds and animals in general. As one of the totem spirits, the great eagle is a personal favorite.
Â
I love eagles too! They’re very majestic.
Â
[Grimlock beams a wide smile and nods at Patricia.]
Â
What was the situation where you laughed the hardest you ever have?
Â
[Grimlock chuckles before responding]
I find laughing to be an unnecessary diversion in most cases. However, I did find humor in scaring Constable Ethan Demak straight after he discriminated against me for my mixed-race heritage.
Â
[Patricia chuckles.]
Sounds like he deserved it.
Â
He did, but I am happy to say that he seemed to learn his lesson and straighten up.
Â
Well that’s good then! I’m glad he learned his lesson.
Hmm, this next question is a good one: What’s a line you would never cross?
Â
[Grimlock responds with a thump of his chest]
I would never sacrifice my personal integrity under any circumstances. A man’s honor is his bond.
Â
Great answer! I think holding true to personal integrity is important.
We have space for one last question looks like, so here it is:
If the world was going to explode and you could only bring one person with you on the escape pod, who would it be and why?
Â
I do not know what an escape pod is, but if the world was going to explode and I could only save one person, it would be my mother. She risked everything to save me, and I would do anything for her.
Â
Sounds like she’s very special to you.
Â
She is. I hope one day to reunite her with my lost brother, Murag. I know his absence haunts her.
Â
I think that would be wonderful—the whole family united once again.
[Patricia stands with a smile.]
It was very nice getting to chat with you, Grimlock. Best of luck with the vragoths!
Â
[Grimlock fixes her with a firm nod]
Thank you, but I believe we make our own luck. We shall stop them!
End of interview.
