Selene and Arden Moore

April Character Interview

Patricia Parrington ~ April 1, 2026

Hello my lovely readers and fellow book-lovers! For those of you new here, I, your fantastic host Patricia Parrington, have the pleasure of interviewing characters from books all over the world.

Today, Selene and Arden Moore are here with us from the adult urban fantasy book Eve by Mark Runte. Along with urban fantasy, Mark also writes horror. He occasionally bakes as well.

Meet Selene and Arden

Welcome to Fable Features!

[Patricia settles onto an orange suede couch opposite her guest and smiles warmly.]

I’m so glad you’re here. Tell me—what do you do for a living?

Bartender, hobbyist mechanic.

[Selene shrugs.]

Nothing special, really.

. . . Bodyguard . . .

[Arden says.]

[Selene lets out a tired sigh.]

Yeah, that. Remember that thing about honesty our parents taught us? Don’t. Tends to freak Americans out. Or just about everyone else.

[Patricia leans forward, intrigued.]

Bodyguard you say? How interesting! Tell me more about that. How’d you get into the business of being bodyguards?

Just me, really. Selene knows a little self-defense from our dad, but no one expects her to protect people.

[Arden looks down.]

And it was the . . . only way to get a passport, work visa thing. Mum set it up years ago, just in case.

Ahh okay. Well it sounds like a useful skill to have at least.

[Patricia leans back against the couch cushions.]

Do you have any close friends? What are they like?

[Arden says,]

Ex-girlfriend. We’re not talking anymore.

[Selene replies,]

Just me, my brother, and four younger siblings, really. Got a boyfriend about the same time Arden lost his girlfriend.

[Patricia shoots Arden a sympathetic look.]

Sorry to hear about your girlfriend. And wow—that’s a lot of siblings. Do you all get along well?

[Selene responds dryly,]

We’re mum and dad to them, kind of have to since our parents passed. Diana doesn’t remember them at all, the older three only barely.

I see. That’s a tough responsibility, and alongside such a hard loss.

[Patricia pauses, quiet for a moment.]

Why don’t we move on to the next question? What do you like to do for fun?

Occasionally mess around with vehicles or motorbikes. Probably one of the few useful things Dad taught me before he died.

[Selene answers.]

That’s fun! Sounds like you two are very resourceful and skilled.

Tell me, what makes you feel seen and appreciated?

[Arden answers first.]

Last thing I want to be, to be honest. Appreciated, maybe. Seen, I’d . . . rather not.

[Selene slides a hand across his arm in an attempt at reassurance.]

Our parents were complicated, I guess.

It does sound like a complicated situation.

What’s something you really miss?

[Arden grows quiet.]

They were all kinds of messed up but . . . Mum and Dad.

Is it alright if I ask what happened?

[Arden gives a slight grimace.]

Dad, shot in the apartment kitchen when I was twelve. Mum . . . just a year or so ago. Morphine overdose when it didn’t look like she was going to survive much longer. Guess it’s better than their old department executing them or deportation back to Russia.

[Selene frowns a little.]

I might have poked around your video archives before the interview but there was one . . . how the hell did you manage to get our parents on tape? Doesn’t matter that much now but they were KGB officers. Permanent records like that are, well, surprising.

[Patricia smiles, recalling the interview.]

Yes, that’s right! I did get to interview your parents. That was back in February 2025. I do remember having to include quite a few security measures at the time. But we made it work! If you’d like, after your interview I can pull out the full footage for you.

[She jots a note to herself then returns her attention to Arden and Selene.]

If you could change the color of one animal, what animal would you choose and what color is it turning?

[Selene frown slightly.]

What kind of question is that?

[She hesitates.]

I guess if you know about werewolves, I’d make my fur a little less white.

[Patricia grins.]

White would tend to make you stick out. It’s a pretty color though!

What quality do you value most in a friend?

[Selene gives a slight snort.]

The dead kind of quality. At least they can’t hurt or sell you out to the FBI or something. MI6.

[Patricia frowns sympathetically.]

Sounds like you guys have gone through a lot. I can’t imagine what it must feel like being betrayed by a friend. No wonder you try to keep close to just family!

[Patricia sighs and taps her knee.]

Well, I know your time is limited here today, so we’ll wrap up with one last question: What’s the biggest problem you’re facing right now?

[Both respond at the same time:]

Schizophrenia.

Our birth country.

Wow! Those certainly are big problems!

[Patricia stands.]

Thank you so much for chatting with me today, Selene and Arden. I hope things get a little easier for you and your family.

End of interview.
